Powerwave Technologies Introduces New Remote Radio Unit For UMTS Networks At CTIA Wireless 2003

Powerwave Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: PWAV), a leading supplier of radio frequency (RF) power amplifiers for use in wireless communications networks, will demonstrate its latest high performance multi-carrier power amplifier (MCPA) technology for UMTS networks at CTIA Wireless 2003 in New Orleans, March 17 - 19. Demonstrations will include the company's new Remote Radio Unit (RRU), a fiber fed, compact W-CDMA radio which extends the coverage range of UMTS base stations.

"At Powerwave, we are committed to expanding our product offering beyond advanced RF power amplifiers to provide more value-added solutions for our industry leading customers," said Bruce C. Edwards, President and Chief Executive Officer of Powerwave Technologies. "Our Remote Radio Unit provides a high performance, low cost enhancement which extends the reach of today’s base station architecture.”

Powerwave’s RRU is a compact, low cost W-CDMA radio incorporating a linearised transmitter, two-branch diversity receiver and RF front end which provides improved downlink and uplink performance. With a total output power of 20 watts, the RRU offers a flexible, low cost deployment option to meet the coverage needs of initial UMTS rollouts. It can be mounted remotely from the main base station in a variety of locations, including rooftops, sides of a building, towers or poles. Multiple RRUs can be connected to each base station over a fibre optic interface, and can be located at a distance of a few metres to several kilometres. The wideband design supports up to four carriers to meet long-term capacity demands.

Powerwave’s RRU will be demonstrated at CTIA Wireless 2003 at Booth 2827.

Forward-Looking Statements

The foregoing statements regarding the introduction of new products and architectures and the benefits to be derived from the new products or architectures are "forward looking statements." All of these statements are subject to risks and uncertainties which could cause our actual results to differ materially from those projected or implied. Such potential risks and uncertainties include, but are not limited to, in no particular order: unexpected technical difficulties in developing new products which could result in delays in the availability of the new products; undetected technical problems which could impact the performance of the new products; difficulties or delays in obtaining customer qualification of new products; delays in deployment of 3G systems by wireless OEM’s and delays in acceptance of 3G systems by network operators; we require continued success in the design of new amplifier products and such products must be manufacturable and of good quality and reliability; the ramp up of new engineering projects and product lines incurs many additional costs and if customer demand for such new products is not large enough, such costs may have a negative impact on our operating results; our business requires continued favorable business conditions and growth in the wireless communications market. More detailed information on these and additional factors which could affect Powerwave's operating and financial results are described in the Company's Form 10-K for the fiscal year ended December 29, 2002 which is filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission, and other risks detailed from time to time in the Company's reports filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
