Powerwave Introduces High Power Wideband Radio Head For Indoor And Outdoor Distributed Antenna System Applications

Combining Exceptional Reliability with High Performance, the Wideband Radio Head Reduces Capital and Operational Expenses

Powerwave Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:PWAV), a global source for end-to-end wireless infrastructure solutions, announced the introduction of its high power Wideband Radio Head which will be on display at CTIA Wireless 2006, the industry’s premier wireless conference and exhibition, taking place April 5-7, 2006, here in Las Vegas.

Designated WRH-V, the Wideband Radio Head is a combination of Powerwave’s highly reliable Wideband Radio Head architecture and advanced multi-carrier power amplifier (MCPA) technology. Providing ultra linear high power operation for both indoor and outdoor distributed antenna systems (DAS), the Wideband Radio Head can house up to two high-power MCPAs, enabling network operators to support a coverage area with fewer WHR-V units, when compared to using standard power Wideband Radio Heads.

Powerwave’s WRH-V units are ideal for use in outdoor DAS applications in suburban, residential and rural areas, and can reduce the cost of providing coverage in large indoor venues such as subways, tunnels, airports, casinos and stadiums.

Key benefits offered by Powerwave’s WRH-V Wideband Radio Head include reduced capital expenditure due to the increased coverage footprint available through the use of dual band high-power units; industry-leading reliability that increases network availability and reduces operational expenses; lower power consumption from high-efficiency MCPAs that further reduces operational expenses; and reduced logistical costs due to full PCS band coverage in a single unit. In addition, mixed mode operation supporting multiple technologies including AMPS, TDMA, CDMA, GSM, UMTS and EVDO provides the option to reduce capital expenditures through the use of shared amplifiers.

“Powerwave’s next generation wireless infrastructure solutions are revolutionizing the industry,“ said Ronald J. Buschur, President and Chief Executive Officer, Powerwave Technologies. “We consistently look for opportunities to help our customers enhance their services, lower costs and improve performance. Our capabilities in providing reliable, high performance MCPAs and repeaters has enabled us to develop a high power Wideband Radio Head that is ideally suited to meet the needs of dense urban and rural areas that require high quality, yet cost-effective coverage solutions.”

The WRH-V Wideband Radio Head offers 43 dBm (20W) power output in the downlink direction; 240W total power consumption per band; is protected from dust and water by an IP65 rated enclosure; and will be available in 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz and 1900 MHz versions. Product availability is planned for Q3, 2006.
