Khurram Sheikh of Powerwave Technologies to Participate in a Panel on LTE Standards at the 2008 Mobile World Congress


Powerwave to exhibit growing line-up of end-to-end wireless infrastructure solutions

WHAT:
Khurram P. Sheikh, chief product and development officer for Powerwave Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:PWAV), a global supplier of wireless infrastructure solutions, will participate in a panel entitled “The OFDMA Battleground” as part of an educational session on Long Term Evolution (LTE) wireless standards at the 2008 GSMA Mobile World Congress, taking place in Barcelona, Spain, February 11-24, 2008.

The “The OFDMA Battleground” panel will take place on Tuesday, February 12, from 4:15 to 5:45 p.m. Other panelists include Roger Dorf, vice president and general manager, Broadband Wireless Business, Cisco; John Roese, CTO, Nortel; and, Fred Wright, senior vice president and general manager, Motorola.

Powerwave will also participate in Mobile World Congress as an exhibitor, showcasing its antenna, base station and coverage systems that are used in cellular, PCS and 3G networks around the globe.

The Mobile World Congress features the very latest in technology, services, and developments, bringing to life the promise of mobile broadband for all and defining the industry's path to continued growth. Khurram P. Sheikh, chief product and development officer at Powerwave, is a leader and pioneer of various industry and technology standards bodies, including the 3GPP/2, IEEE 801.11/16/20/21, WiMAX/WiBro, Cable Labs and the Wireless Communications Association International (WCAI). He has led his teams in developing groundbreaking technologies such as Broadband Radio Services (BRS) - 2.5GHz spectrum acquisition and development, space-time processing technologies (smart antennas), and cable-wireless seamless mobility and OFDMA-based 4G wireless technologies.

Mr. Sheikh joined Powerwave in 2007 from Time Warner Cable, where as vice president, Wireless Strategy and Development, he was responsible for developing technology and business plans, and driving a converged end-to-end service architecture that incorporated seamless mobility inside and outside the home through multi-mode multimedia devices, scalable wired/wireless infrastructure and mobile content delivery. Prior to this, Mr. Sheikh served as chief technology advisor for Sprint, where he lead technology assessment, research and development, network architecture and design, technology trials and the strategic development of next generation wireless solutions.
