Powerwave Introduces New RapidFlex Mobile Deployment Unit for Commercial Network Operators
CTIA WIRELESS 2010, LAS VEGAS, Booth #2415 - Mar. 24, 2010 -
Powerwave Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:PWAV), a global leader in end-to-end wireless coverage and capacity solutions, today from International CTIA Wireless 2010, announced the general availability of its new RapidFlex™ Mobile Deployment Unit designed for both commercial operators and government users. The RapidFlex, a lightweight, compact mobile communications site capable of being deployed within 30-minutes by a single person, is designed to provide commercial network operators or third-party vertical market integrators with a cost-effective solution for expanded wireless capacity.
The latest offering within Powerwave’s mobile RF site solutions family, RapidFlex is a robust solution designed to boost wireless capacity to support high concurrent call volume and data access in various commercial scenarios, such as large-scale special event coverage, parking garage or surveillance applications, and temporary-to-permanent project support. Ideal for addressing “grey area” coverage areas where wireless service is spotty or non-existent – and where service providers must still comply with FCC mandates, including Enhanced 911 (E911) – RapidFlex is an exceptionally rugged, versatile wireless communications solution.
Low Profile, Yet Levels Above the Competition
Differentiated from other cell-on-wheel solutions due to its one-person rapid deployment capabilities that are facilitated via computerized one-button touch screen operation and automated cable extension and retraction system, the unit’s unique design offers the industry’s lowest total cost of ownership – in part through the elimination of the need for certified tower climbers. Its light weight and low profile also eliminates the traditional transportation requirements and costs associated with commercial transport and commercial driver’s license requisites – and because standard half-ton to 1-ton pickups can be used for hauling, the need for special transportation permits is eliminated.
Combining Powerwave’s rugged VersaFlexTM 7.0 or VersaFlex 9.0 equipment shelters (or MicroFlex™ Outdoor Equipment Cabinet) with a hydraulic-powered telescoping tower creates a lightweight, compact, fully self-contained portable communications site. RapidFlex is offered in a variety of configurations ranging from 12,000- to 24,500-pound GVWR-rated trailers, and features fully contained power generation to address power availability considerations. Users can temporarily power the unit via generators, or RapidFlex can be powered on a more permanent basis to meet the needs of remote regions.
“Often times, what begins as a temporary wireless solution evolves into a permanent situation,” said Khurram P. Sheikh, chief product and development officer for Powerwave Technologies, Inc. “RapidFlex’s combination of cost-effectiveness, ruggedness and flexibility makes it an ideal choice in mobile RF site solutions.”
RapidFlex is designed so that components, including the tower, equipment shelter and generator systems, can be quickly disconnected and removed from the mobile trailer system, allowing for temporary-to-permanent pad mounting and vertical replenishment operations. Additionally, RapidFlex’s automated cable management system feeds coax, fibre and power cables up and down the tower during telescoping and retraction operations, and features modular site components and vertical replenishment lifting points, eliminating the need for labor- and time-intensive deployment.
With a completely self-supporting tower, available in 20M to 50M heights, the mobile unit offers reduced wind and aesthetic impact over competing lattice designs, and includes mechanical tower locks and safety through pins for enhanced safety during deployment operations. Hydraulic-powered tubular towers meet TIA-222-G standards, and eliminate the need for external cables and electric motors that are common points of failure. RapidFlex mobile towers are designed to be self guyed, earth guyed or self supporting, depending on environmental conditions and tower heights. While accommodating a multitude of communication antennas, the tower also supports ancillary gear such as surveillance cameras and search lights – up to 650 pounds of payload.
Additionally, in keeping with Powerwave's ongoing effort to develop environmentally friendly products, RapidFlex leverages biodegradable hydraulic fluid designed to weather the most extreme operating environments (-70ºF to 175ºF).
Powerwave’s RapidFlex is available now. Pricing is based on user configuration. For a product brochure or more information about Powerwave’s family of Rapid Mobile Deployment Units, please visit: http://www.powerwave.com/mobilerfsitesolutions.asp.
