Powerwave Keeps Public Safety Communications on the Leading Edge with Innovative Offerings at APCO 2010
SANTA ANA, Calif. - Jul. 30, 2010 -
Powerwave Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:PWAV), a global leader in end-to-end wireless coverage and capacity solutions, today announced its plan to introduce a new repeater, and showcase a number of innovative infrastructure solutions for public safety wireless networks, next week at the APCO International Annual Conference 2010, taking place in Houston, Aug. 1-4.
Powerwave’s next-generation wireless solutions support mission-critical communications and deliver the requisite ruggedness, performance, reliability and flexibility to meet a wide range of government and public safety requirements and operational scenarios. Among the new public safety solutions debuting at the show is Powerwave’s Nexus FT Urban™ repeater. Designed to meet strict aesthetic requirements for outdoor deployments, improve views and bolster mobile broadband access across commercial and public safety wireless networks, Powerwave’s Nexus FT Urban repeaters provide high quality, efficient, multi-service coverage packaged in an environmentally conscious design to support 700 MHz and 800 MHz public safety bands and 700 MHz, 850 MHz, 1900 MHz and AWS commercial bands.
Additional innovations to be showcased include:
• RapidFlex™ One-Person Mobile Deployment Unit: RapidFlex is a lightweight, compact mobile communications site capable of being deployed within 30 minutes by a single person, and is designed to provide commercial network operators or third-party vertical market integrators with a cost-effective solution for expanded wireless capacity. The unit boosts wireless capacity to support high concurrent call volume and data access in various commercial scenarios, such as large-scale special event coverage, parking garage or surveillance applications, and temporary-to-permanent project support. Ideal for addressing “grey area” coverage areas where wireless service is spotty or non-existent – and where service providers must still comply with FCC mandates, including Enhanced 911 (E911) – RapidFlex is an exceptionally rugged, versatile wireless communications solution.
• SubTerra™ Controlled Environment Vault: An underground platform that rises to the surface via hydraulic mechanisms, SubTerra is an ideal enclosure solution designed for state, city and local jurisdictions (as well as network operators) for low impact areas where aesthetics are vital and security is essential. SubTerra protects critical communications equipment underground and out of public view, reducing the potential for theft and vandalism – an important consideration for border regions and vandal-prone areas, as well as areas under Homeland Security mandates such as airports and seaports. Compact and ultra low-profile, SubTerra’s monolithic, fiber glass-reinforced plastic design provides fail-safe engineering that is corrosion-resistant, water tight and durable, and weighs substantially less than traditional pre-cast concrete solutions.
• NetWay™ Vision: This remote site management solution enables end users to maximize return on investment by enabling network discovery, diagnosis and resolution from a centralized software interface in combination with network-aware hardware. Powerwave NetWay provides all the tools for fault, configuration, performance and security management for real-time network optimization, allowing users to centrally monitor and manage critical network resources, and allowing for cell coverage adjustments during peak and off-peak hours to save time, money and reduce the carbon footprint through fewer truck rolls.
• Industry-Leading Antennas: Powerwave’s line of 700 MHz antennas provide the power and performance needed to address the public safety sector’s key deployment challenges, including mitigating site-to-site interference, meeting requirements for passive intermodulation and attaining optimal coverage. Consisting of a single-band antenna covering 698-896 MHz, Powerwave’s 700 MHz antennas boast a highly efficient design, allowing operators to plan for more coverage with fewer antennas as Powerwave’s components offer more gain per length compared to competing antennas.
The 76th APCO International Annual Conference will be held at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston. The event draws executives, dispatchers and technicians involved in all aspects of public safety communications – from law enforcement to PSAPs to government agencies – and presents the public safety communications industry’s best educational and product offerings.
