Powerwave Receives 2009 4GWE Product of the Year Award 4G WiMAX and LTE Radio Head Honored for Outstanding Innovation

Powerwave Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:PWAV), a global leader in end-to-end wireless coverage and capacity solutions, today announced it has won a 2009 4GWE Product of the Year Award for its WiMAX and LTE Remote Radio Head - a key component in powering next-generation advanced wireless networks based on 4G technologies.

The first annual "4GWE Product of the Year" awards, sponsored by Technology Marketing Corporation (TMC) and Crossfire Media, honor those companies that demonstrate vision, leadership and thoroughness by recognizing the most innovative new products brought to market in 2009.

"The next generation of mobile broadband technology offers tremendous potential to wireless carriers and consumers, and we’re proud to contribute to the evolving 4G network with our award-winning wireless infrastructure components," said Ronald J. Buschur, president and CEO, Powerwave Technologies. "TMC and Crossfire have been instrumental in covering the 4G evolution, and we're pleased to be part of their inaugural 'product of the year' program as they celebrate advances made in wireless."

Powerwave's 4G Remote Radio Head (RRH) leverages the company's award-winning WiMAX technology architecture, including a wideband transceiver tunable across all major 4G frequency bands, and a power amplifier with industry-leading efficiency. To meet the demands of exponential data growth in 4G networks, the Powerwave Technologies RRH enables significantly improved data throughput while simultaneously reducing a cell's total carbon footprint. Designed for versatility, the RRH can mount on a tower, pole or roof top, and its advanced system architecture is based on a modular platform providing the ability to quickly migrate all 4G applications.

To date, Powerwave has deployed nearly 75,000 digital radio heads around the globe -  facilitating the rapid deployment of major 4G projects and supporting all manner of air interfaces and technologies. Powerwave's technology and service is unsurpassed in the industry, and the company possesses all the expertise and owns several patented technologies employed in the design of the 4G Remote Radio Head product.

Powerwave's portfolio of 4G infrastructure products includes antennas, tower-mounted amplifiers (TMAs), multi-carrier power amplifiers (MCPAs) and radio heads, along with service and software solutions designed to reduce deployment costs and complexity, giving network operators a distinctive time-to-market advantage.

"On behalf of Crossfire Media I extend congratulations to Powerwave Technologies for their advancement of 4G technologies. The entire wireless industry looks forward to more innovative solutions from them in the future," said Carl Ford, founder and community developer, Crossfire Media.

"4GWE is pleased to grant a 2009 Product of the Year Award to Powerwave for their 4G WiMAX LTE Radio Head. Powerwave has proven they are committed to quality and excellence while addressing real needs in the marketplace," said Rich Tehrani, CEO, TMC. "We're proud to honor their accomplishments in the advancement of the 4G industry."
